AVSTA, located in Lancaster, CA, provides transportation for regular education, special needs education and Field Trips. Welcome to AVSTA Antelope Valley Schools Transportation Agency was formed on July 1, 1980, following a feasibility study regarding forming a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) by the following districts: Antelope Valley Union High School District, Gorman School District, Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes School District, Keppel Union School District, Lancaster School District, Palmdale School District, Westside Union Elementary School District, and Wilsona School District. The Joint Powers Authority (JPA) is a union between two or more public entities with common interests, whose purpose is to join forces and share resources. The original location of AVSTA was at Antelope Valley High School. In 1988 construction was completed on our current facility located at 670 West Avenue L-8 in Lancaster, CA. One of the Agency’s major successes has been the ability to obtain grants worth over 11 million dollars since 1993, to obtain new school buses and fueling infrastructure. About Us: Antelope Valley Schools Transportation Agency (AVSTA) currently serves three-member districts including Antelope Valley Union High School District, Lancaster School District, and Westside Union School District. AVSTA holds classes several times a year to teach you all you need to know about driving a School Bus and how to secure a job with us, transporting the most important people in the world, our children. AVSTA offers paid School Bus driver training. Qualifications for training and employment include: You must be 18 years of age. Have not been convicted of a felony. Have a good driving record. What to expect : Please go to the Department of Motor Vehicles and obtain a copy of the California Class C Handbook and a K-4 DMV Report. It is very important that you study the Handbook before coming to Orientation. Bring Paper and Pencil. Bring your Drivers License Successful applicants will begin a 2 (two) week classroom training at no cost. This course is designed to provide the applicant with a Commercial Drivers License Class B with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement, a Special Certificate (DL-45 Certificate, which allows one to drive a School Bus), a DOT Medical Card, and First Aid Card. The Commercial Handbook is used in this class. Behind the wheel, classes will be scheduled on an individual basis. We train on Type I and Type II Buses. Upon completion, you will have the skills and will have met the requirements for School Bus Driving. A new class will be announced soon, turn in your application as soon as possible. The SMART tag system helps increase safety and security for students riding on a school bus, leveraging technology to improve student management and communications on school buses. SMART tag monitors student loading and unloading, providing real-time information to the Transportation Department and you, the parent. See a school administrator to order a Buss Pass. After the order has been processed, students will receive their new or replacement Bus Pass from their school bus driver. Lancaster School District : Students will receive initial and replacement passes free of charge. See a school administrator to order a Bus P ass. After an order has been processed, students will receive their new or replacement Buss P ass from their school bus driver. Replacement passes can be ordered from the AVSTA website or in person at 670 West Ave. L-8; Lancaster; Ca; 93534. Antelope Valley Union High School District: ALL general education high school students within the boundaries will be provided transportation services free of charge. All new High school general education students must complete a Bus Pass Order Form. Returning general high school students will receive an email notification with instructions to respond with their student's ridership verification status for the 2024 - 2025 school year. This process must be completed for your pass renewal. If you have not received your email notification by June 30, 2024, contact our Executive Assistant at 661-945-3621. A $5.00 fee will be charged for each replacement pass and must be picked up at AVSTA ; 670 West Avenue L-8; Lancaster. A replacement pass may be ordered in person or from the Bus Rider or Smart-Tag Portal. All Special Needs Students will receive their SMART tag pass at no charge, including replacement passes. SMART tag INFORMATION The Agency began implementation of the SMART tag system in 2019 and completed implementation in 2022. We are pleased to announce that all students we provide transportation to are utilizing the system. The system has been developed to help us eliminate certain types of communication breakdowns. The SMART tag parent App is available for parents or guardians. Primary Parents must register to create a login, to register download the Smart tag Parent App from either the Apple App Store or the Android Play Store. View the Instructional Video below for more information on how to register . If your email and phone number are not what the school has on file, you can still register by entering your student's 10-digit Student State ID, birth date, and school site. If you do not know their ID number contact your school site for assistance. The Smart tag Parent app allows parents to receive transportation messages, pickup, and drop-off notifications, and create guardians. The Bus Rider Portal is a web-based Parent Portal that will provide access for parents for SMART-Tag alerts, emails and Child location. Bus Rider PORTAL Dear Parents and Guardians, Below are tabs for General Education High School, General Education Elementary/Middle School and Special Needs High School, and Special Needs Elementary/Middle School. Included are current bus rules and the form to be filled out for general transportation students requesting bus service. Special needs students require an IEP meeting to qualify for transportation. All High School General Education Students MUST RENEW BUS PASSES EACH SCHOOL YEAR TO RIDE THE SCHOOL BUS. Renew by clicking on the Bus Pass Order Form below. All General Education Elementary and Middle School Bus Riders must request a Bus Pass by completing, a Transit Bus Transportation Request (TBTR) form that must be submitted. The form can be obtained from the school site. The parent/guardian must complete the request form and the student must return it to the school site within 5 business days to avoid loss of ridership. Incomplete requests will not be processed. After the request has been processed, your student will be provided with a Bus Pass from the bus driver. Currently, available is The SMART-tag Parent App, which will provide access for parents to sign up for SMART tag alerts and receive emails or text notifications when their child’s bus is approximately 10-15 minutes away from their stop. Parents can go through the registration process after installing the Smart-Tag Parent App on the SMART tag Information tab from either the Apple App Store or the Android Play Store. There are two important questions you must answer when registering your student. You must select AVSTA when entering your student's school district, and when entering the Student ID Number, you must enter your student's 10-digit Student State ID. If you need assistance getting the Student State ID, call your student's school administrator. Parents, please note that Transportation Release Information is now being processed through the SMART tag Parent App. Assign guardian(s) for your student during registration, you may also add additional guardians or make changes at any time. Wayfinder functions similarly to Smart-Tag, utilizing RFID passes for each bus rider. In addition, Wayfinder includes a built-in navigation feature that uses our scheduled bus routes, allowing our drivers to receive accurate stop-by-stop directions and enabling precise reporting and analysis for your school district. Implementation will occur in four phases, with full completion expected by the end of the 2025–2026 school year. Each student will receive a new Wayfinder Bus Pass at the start of their assigned phase from their bus driver. Please note that once a student is moved to Wayfinder, their information will no longer appear in the Smart-Tag parent portal. Wayfinder offers its own parent application, called Stopfinder, which will be added to our system this summer. Additional information regarding Stopfinder will be provided to each parent/guardian through their student’s bus driver or school site. - FIELD TRIPS | AVSTA | Lancaster, CA
AVSTA provides Field Trip buses for over 50 schools in the Antelope Valley & averages 3,000 trips per school year. Field Trip Request Instructions: The following information will guide you through the Field Trip Request process. The information we request will help us ensure that your trip is booked correctly. Destination: Field Trip requests must include the following: Your school address or start point of the Field Trip . The business or school name and address for your destination. If there is any additional information that will assist the school bus or charter bus driver find your destination, please make a note of the request form. Field Trip departure and return times: It is very important to note accurate departure and return times. If there is a change that needs to be made for either the departure or return, contact our dispatch department so that they can make those changes for you as well as for our drivers. We make every effort to have the school bus at your location 15 minutes prior to departure; this allows adequate time for loading equipment and passengers. The bus needs to depart as scheduled. If your group does not meet at the designated area at the departure time, it could put the bus at risk of being pulled from your school. Confirmation: When AVSTA receives your Field Trip request we will process and create an Acceptance/Confirmation form that will be emailed to the point of contact. Please carefully review the Acceptance/Confirmation form, sign it, and email it back to us with 72 hours. Any changes after the Acceptance/Confirmation Form has been signed and returned must be made in writing. By email: please reference the Field Trip number, located at the top left of the Acceptance/Confirmation form. Email to fieldtrips@avsta.com . Cancellations: If you need to cancel your Field Trip , we request that notice is given to AVSTA within 48 hours of departure. All cancellations must be done in writing, simply write “CANCEL” across the Acceptance/Confirmation form, sign, and email the page back to our Trip Clerk. If a bus is canceled at the time of your scheduled departure, your school will be charged for the driver’s guaranteed hours. Antelope Valley Schools Transportation Agency provides Field Trip buses for over 50 schools in the Antelope Valley. AVSTA averages 3,000 trips per school year. Destinations from Antelope Valley include San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Arizona, and as far north as Stockton, California. We have used as many as 40 (forty) buses for a single trip. AVSTA Bus Drivers must attend special classes in order to be qualified to drive on Field Trips. The class includes a written test as well as an out-of-town driving test. Charter Bus Companies are utilized for Field Trips when needed. FIELD TRIP REQUESTS We provide transportation for Field Trips for multiple School Districts.
