Dear Parents,


The SMART-Tag system helps increase safety and security for students riding on a school bus, leveraging technology to improve student management and communications on school buses.

  • SMART-Tag monitors student loading and unloading, providing real-time information to the Transportation Department and you, the parent.

  • SMART-Tag Parent Portal provides alerts to parents via email or text when your child is 10 – 15 minutes from their stop.

Westside Union School District:

Westside School Districts’ first time and all replacement passes will be provided free of charge. See a school administrator to order a SMART-Tag pass.  After the order has been processed, students will receive their new or replacement SMART-Tag pass from their school bus driver.


Lancaster School District:

Students will receive first-time and replacement passes free of charge. See a school administrator to order a SMART-Tag pass. After an order has been processed, students will receive their new or replacement SMART-Tag pass from their school bus driver. Replacement passes can be ordered from the AVSTA website or in person at 670 West Ave. L-8; Lancaster; Ca; 93534.


Antelope Valley Union High School District:

 ALL general education high school students within the boundaries will be provided transportation services free of charge. Therefore, the $100.00/per semester or $200.00/annual fee will no longer apply. High school general education students must renew their pass by completing a new Smart-Tag Order Form each year. A $5.00 fee will be charged for each replacement pass and must be picked up at AVSTA; 670 West Avenue L-8; Lancaster. A replacement pass may be ordered in person or from the Bus rider or Smart-Tag Portal.

All Special Needs Students will receive their SMART-Tag pass at no charge, including replacement passes.

  • To order in person, come to the AVSTA office; 670 West Avenue L-8, Lancaster. This service is available to High School students for New and Replacement passes only. This service is available to Middle and Elementary students for Replacement passes ONLY

The Agency began implementation of the SMART-Tag system in 2019 and completed implementation in 2022. We are pleased to announce that all students we provide transportation are utilizing the system.  The system has been developed to help us eliminate certain types of communication breakdowns. The SMART-Tag parent portal is available for parents or guardians. You must register to create a login (to register go to the SMART-Tag Parent Portal tab), this will allow you to receive transportation messages, pickup and drop off notifications, and create guardians. This process is not for ordering or renewing a SMART-Tag pass.
